As some of you already know, this is the Kari Voutilainen Vingt-8. The case is white gold and the dial features 3 different guilloche patterns. The blue parts are grand feu enameled and simply stunning to look at. It has a kind of optical illusion which in certain angles makes it looks spherical.
The movement is coated in what Kari refers to as "dark gold". This looks very nice making the jewels and black polished steel parts stand out.
As Kari told me, this coating is very delicate and care has to be taken when assembling the watch. Even humid weather because of rain can be detrimental and lead to oxidation.
The level of finish is very high, even under loupe! What you can see though, is the hands of the maker. For example some of the bevels and screws are slightly thinner or wider than on other bridges.
These imperfections, if you could call them that, give the watch a soul and handmade feel.
The first impression is that it is a very robust watch. Much like a Lange on steroids! The winding action is something special and the whole tactile dimension of the watch, including the case and lugs is very pleasing.
I am planning on a visit in Switzerland later this summer/fall and going to see the birthplace of this is in the top of my list!
